Family Therapy

Family therapy is unique to my practice in that my focus is on families with transgender, gender-expansive, and/or gender variant children. For parents, having a child who does not identify with their assigned gender can be riddled with concerns and anxieties, as well as opportunities for growth and celebration. As a trans-identifying clinician with insight into the nuances of gender identity, gender expression, and types of transition (if that option is appropriate), I can bring a modicum of terms, language, and education to the table to help your family figure out what’s right for you.

When it comes to transgender youth, rates of suicide are astronomically high at almost 30% (American Academy of Pediatrics), but that doesn’t have to be the case. Family acceptance and support is the primary factor that determines that statistic. My approach to therapy for families of transgender children is to address the family unit as a cohesive whole; this can include siblings and extended family based on your family’s unique needs.
